Thirumangai Azhwar is one of the twelve revered Azhwars in Vaishnavism, renowned for his devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Living during the 8th or 9th century CE, Thirumangai Azhwar was born in the region of Thirukuraiyalur in Tamil Nadu. Initially a chieftain known for his valor and leadership, he later embraced intense devotion after a divine transformation.
Thirumangai Azhwar composed six Prabandhams, including the illustrious Periya Thirumozhi, which form a significant part of the Naalayira Divya Prabandham—the sacred Tamil hymns of the Vaishnavite tradition. His works are celebrated for their rich poetic beauty, profound spiritual insights, and vivid descriptions of Vishnu’s divine abodes (Divya Desams). Thirumangai Azhwar’s life and contributions continue to inspire devotees and scholars in the realm of Bhakti literature.
